Today I want to look at a few passages from Jude:
Jude 1:20-23 KJV
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
We often forget a critical part of our faith. While our relationship with God is a priority in our own lives, others relationship with God should be as well.
We are instructed here to build up ourselves in our most holy faith, then giving us instructions on how to do it. I don’t believe this is a pick and choose situation, they are all necessary to accomplish it.
We are to pray in the Holy Ghost. That is we are to bring our prayers up through the Holy Ghost, laying ourselves bare before our God. Being quick to get into prayer and generous with who we pray for. Specifically praying for those around us as well.
Keep ourselves in the love of God, how, by looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. I think we could easily read this as looking for opportunities to show the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are to emulate Him, seeking opportunities to show Christ through us.
Now, to further emphasize the previous point, here is how you do that. He says: And of some have compassion, making a difference:
that is, to some we are to show love and compassion to them and there situations. We are to sympathize with them. Through compassion showing them who Christ is.
And finally, he says: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Others we must be stern with. When our brothers and sisters in Christ are living in sin, we are to let them know. We are to show them the error of there ways, letting them know they are living in sin. We still do this out of love, and again, we take it no further than Christ would, but we must take it as far as Christ would. We do this because we hate the sin they live in, and love the person they are.
I urge you to be aware of those around you. Do not let them slip through the cracks because you don’t want to get involved. We are to bolster each other in Christ.
Keep in mind, this means that you should be receptive to those around you guiding you when you fall away. Be ready to listen, pray, and change.
The purpose for all this is to bring each other closer to Christ. I ask that each of understand the final goal, and stand firm in helping mold others and ourselves closer to what God intends.
